for discussion

okay ladies, i have *serious* literary question for you. i've been thinking a lot about hunter s. thompson this week which got me to thinking about when charles bukowski died.... which got me thinking that most of the writers i love and are very affected by are mostly all dead already.

is it the same or opposite for you guys? or irrelvant? who do you love that's still living?

Hmmm... good question. I don't think it's all that relevent to me, personally. I mean, I get sometimes really sad for about a minute or so - like when Timothy Findlay died - thinking that I'll never get to read any new work from an author I love, but I don't really divide my authors like that. It's more the event of the death that's meaningful, I guess. You already know this, Degan, but Bukowski's death also really effected me - I guess because he was such a big part of my formative years (though I didn't know it then) and also because I was on the road to go find him when he died. Kind of threw a wrench into my plans ;)
